The Psychology Concentration provides a broad-based understanding of the principles
and research knowledge of psychology as they apply to human functioning and
interactions. Students gain skills in social science empirical reasoning and analysis, oral
and written professional communication, research, problem solving, computer skills,
critical evaluation, use of multiple perspectives and more. Coursework and faculty stress
both a conceptual and applied understanding of psychology as they relate to human
functioning in a variety of contexts: clinical and counseling, social, educational, work,
family, community, research, and more. Multiple perspectives are frequently used to analyze issues.
The required internship component permits students to explore careers and significantly
augment their skills and knowledge base in psychology.
The Psychology Concentration prepares students for advanced work in graduate school
(Ph.D./Ed.D. work emphasizing research or more applied foci; clinical/counseling work-
e.g., MSW/PsyD/Ph.D. degrees or Masters degrees in psychology/education). Many
students immediately enter human service occupations, business careers, law, health
services, and careers in education.
