This major provides students
with a foundation for understanding politics and power. Along with a grasp
of basic social science reasoning, theory, and methods, students learn
about American politics and society in the context of other societies
and the global system. Faculty members stress mastery of concepts, public
policy analysis, exploration of power in relationships, and decision-making
processes; students also debate the moral and human consequences of these
factors.
Excellent preparation for immediate careers
in public service, human service, and education, the politics major also
lays the groundwork for graduate study in political science, public administration,
law, business, and journalism.
