Bradford’s motto "Surgo Ut Prosim - I rise
to serve" points to a long-standing tradition of community service at
the College. Service is a central part of Bradford’s "practical liberal
arts" philosophy. The volunteer possibilities are limitless. Students
work with a variety of community service agencies including a local Boys
and Girls Club, a homeless shelter, several elementary and middle schools,
the conservation department, and a nursing home just to name a few. Students
begin having community service opportunities as early as New Student Orientation
and these experiences continue on either a volunteer basis or through
our curriculum. Several core and elective courses integrate service as
an integral part of the coursework. Here students connect the learning
that takes place in the classroom with hands on experience.
